Portable FAWP?

{User beware.  There is no warranty with this.  This setup
worked for me.}

Download Portable FAWP

[ Firefox-Audacity-WordPress = FAWP ]
This is a zipped file which includes the above listed applications.

For those of you that would like to try using a multi-site version of WordPress on a USB drive, along with a portable instance of the Firefox browser, and an instance of Audacity (open-source audio creation software), and don’t want to spend alot of time setting it up from scratch, I’ve zipped up what I managed to get working on my flash drive.  The total file size, unpacked, is less than 600 MB.  So, if you have a 2, 4 or 8 GB USB flash drive, with that much space, give it a try.  *This is meant to run from a flash drive.

After you have copied the zipped files to your flash drive, you should see a folder structure similar to this JING screen capture.  This capture shows where the executable files are for Audacity, Firefox Portable, and how to start & stop the Apache web server and MySQL database, which are necessary for WordPress to run.  [JING duration: 1 minute 45 seconds]

The setup uses XAMPP 1.7.3 which includes the Apache web server and MySQL database as the infrastructure for serving up the multi-site instance of WordPress.  The core site is located at http:/localhost/  and to login you would go to http://localhost/wp-admin and login with the Admin account:  “admin” which has a password of “carrot”.

The Portable Firefox browser is included, and has two helpful plugins installed: Mobile Barcoder, and the ScribeFire editor.

Mobile Barcoder makes it easy to generate a QR image for any link on the page, or the page’s URL.

ScribeFire is a blog publishing interface that works well with WP.

I’ve included the Audacity software, because it is just a good workhorse for easily creating and modifying mp3 audio files.

NOTE:  In a test download of the Portable_FAWP zip file, it took less than 2 minutes to download, but unpacking and writing to my flash drive took about 20 minutes.
